Mighty Tip

Curcumin, found in turmeric, is being researched for its benefits both pre- and post-brain injury — pretty cool, huh?

Turmeric has become well known for its potential health benefits, especially the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of curcumin. Turmeric’s rise in popularity as a health trend has led to one of my favorite cafe drinks and this recipe will teach you how to make it at home!

Two notes before starting: First, this recipe will make 2 servings, so feel free to share or save the extra in an airtight container for the next morning (I usually store the second half in a mason jar in the fridge). Second, you can adjust the spices to your personal preferences BUT keep black pepper as an ingredient because it contains piperine which helps with absorption of curcumin….AKA helps the body get those potential health benefits of this drink by keeping the pepper.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups oat milk, or milk of your preference (I used Planet Oat extra creamy oat milk)

  • 1 tsp turmeric

  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg

  • 1/8 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup

Directions

  1. In a small pot, bring milk almost to a boil. Then, turn down the heat to low.

  2. Add all of the spices to the pot with the milk (turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and black pepper). Whisk until completely combined over low heat. You can enjoy in a mug from here or get fancy in step 3.

  3. For getting fancy with froth: Pour your mixture into a blender. Blend lightly for 20-40 seconds, or until you’ve created froth at the top of your liquid. Now, pour it into mug(s) and enjoy this warm cup of goodness!
